Impossible
to look at the sky
without exposing the throat.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

In high school, I was a long distance runner. My first book of poetry was a book-length narrative. I think there might be some connection there. Right now, I’m going against the grain and trying some sprints. “Firmament” is one of these—a short burst of a poem. I love the explosive energy of the short poem.

BIO:

Heather Cousins is the author of Something in the Potato Room, winner of the 2009 Kore Press First Book Award. She holds degrees from Bryn Mawr College, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Georgia. Originally from Michigan, she presently lives in Monroe, Georgia.
