our barn & owls shone
their spotlights in smoke
as if to say we owe
each other still

I texted “The Rainbow Leaves Rasped” to my friend Stacy Heiney from a Babies“R”Us parking lot while my wife bought a box of Pampers for our son, who was snoozing in his car seat.
