The ticking of my wristwatch
masks the shudder of my pulse
ten thousand sepia moth wings
wind in a paper cathedral

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

In junior high I read about the ancient Greek concepts of chronos (time as measured by timepieces, as in “It’s 2:00”) and kyros/kairos (time as measured by what we do with it, as in “It’s time to fly a kite.”). These concepts have stayed with me since then.
