It’s hard to see enough of people;
to see people at all may be enough.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

“Credo” was, for a long time, 40+ lines about a superintendent’s wife raising her son in a cramped basement apartment. Like them, the poem was confined (to sentimental voyeurism, Dickensian bathos, etc.). Are the best poems just a few words rearranged? This is hardly a best anything, yet it does feel enlarged by the absence of its original subjects.
