About

Cellpoems is a poetry journal distributed via text message.

We send new poems twice a week via text message to as many people as we can. While our medium is brief, our goal is not to shrink attention spans or subject good writers and readers to the inanities of text message abbreviations. Rather, in the tradition of great, short poems, we hope to present work that has undergone the duress of revision and come out hard-boiled and striking.

Who is (are) this (we)?

Chris Shannon, Editor and Publisher

Chris has poems forthcoming from the Denver Quarterly and 32 Poems, as well as a review in the current issue of Columbia University’s Germanic Review.  He lives in Brooklyn.

Saara Myrene Raappana, Managing Editor

Saara’s poems appear or are forthcoming in Isotope, RHINO, South Carolina Poetry Review, Spoon River Poetry Review, The Cincinnati Review, and The Harvard Review, among others.

Eric Smith, Managing Editor

Eric Smith’s poems appear most recently in Cream City Review and Green Mountains Review. He teaches at Marshall University.

Hayden Draper, Assistant Editor

Hayden’s poems have appeared in Meridian and Verse Daily. The text message function on her cell phone stopped working 2 months ago. She is planning to check that out.

Mary Beth Ferda, Assistant Editor

Beth lives in Gainesville, FL, where she’s picked up an MFA and a tabico. Her work has appeared in the TLS, and is forthcoming from some other publications, but she’d rather talk about you.

Lee Pinkas, Assistant Editor

Lee Pinkas creates furniture collages from dumpster discards. She has had poems in DIAGRAM, Crab Orchard Review, and Witness, and has work forthcoming from The Denver Quarterly. She’ll never spare you the details.

Zachary Sussman, Contributing Editor

Zach is the Coordinator of NYU’s graduate program in Creative Writing and the poetry editor for Small Anchor Press. He and his poems live in Brooklyn.
